Within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Innovation Forum, a round table “Circular economy and Finnish experience – how environmentally friendly technologies become profitable business” was held, organized with the participation of the Business Finlandpartnership.
The event was attended by Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg Sergei Movchan, the Chairman of the Committee for industrial policy and innovations of St. Petersburg Maxim Meiksin, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on improvement of St. Petersburg Kirill Pashchenko, Director of waste Management environmental services in Helsinki Petri Kouvo, senior researcher at the VTT Technical research Centre of Finland Matti Nieminen.
Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg Sergey Movchan noted that Finland has accumulated extensive experience in the field of waste management, and it can be in demand in the Russian Federation.
In our country, the reform of waste management has been launched, which will be implemented from January 1, 2019.
As part of the reform, the principles of solid municipal waste management are also changing. Thus, each entity is obliged to develop an electronic territorial scheme of waste management, to approve the regional program and standards, as well as to select a regional operator on a competitive basis, which will be responsible for the full cycle of solid waste management.
“This is a large amount of work, in the implementation of which the experience of Finland is very valuable for us. Such projects open good prospects for the broadest cooperation,” – said Sergey Movchan.
